Pinterest API errorsand how to fix them.
When Pinterest rejects a request, Siar stores the network's own code and message on the post and returns it to you unchanged, so what you read here matches what you see in the API. Back to the Pinterest API.
Where a code is shown it is the network's own code or HTTP status. Messages are abridged where Pinterest's text is long.
401
Message
Authentication failed.
What it means. The access token expired or the user removed the app from their Pinterest account.
How to fix it. Siar refreshes automatically; if it still fails, reconnect the Pinterest account.
403 trial
Message
Your application consumer type is not supported / Trial access.
What it means. The Pinterest app only has Trial access, which cannot create public pins.
How to fix it. Apply for Standard access in the Pinterest developer portal, then retry.
403 scope
Message
Not authorized to access this resource.
What it means. The token lacks a scope this call needs (for example boards:write or user_accounts:read).
How to fix it. Reconnect the account and accept every permission.
404 board
Message
Board not found.
What it means. data.boardName does not match any board on the connected account.
How to fix it. Use the exact board name (case does not matter) or create the board on Pinterest first.
404 pin
Message
Pin not found.
What it means. The pin was deleted on Pinterest or belongs to another account.
How to fix it. Check the pin still exists.
400 image
Message
Invalid image URL / the image could not be fetched.
What it means. Pinterest could not download the image from our media URL, or the file is not a supported image.
How to fix it. Use JPEG or PNG under 20 MB; Siar retries the post.
400 params
Message
Invalid parameters.
What it means. A field failed validation: title over 100, description over 800, a bad link, or an unsupported carousel size.
How to fix it. Fix the field named in the error meta; carousels need 2 to 5 images.
400 video
Message
The media is not ready / cover image is required.
What it means. A video pin was created before Pinterest finished processing, or no cover was given.
How to fix it. Siar waits for the media to reach "succeeded" first; set a thumbnail upload if it keeps failing.
429
Message
You have exceeded your rate limit.
What it means. The per-user or per-app request limit is used up.
How to fix it. Siar retries after the reset time; spread scheduled pins out.
5xx
Message
Internal Server Error
What it means. Pinterest is having trouble.
How to fix it. Transient; Siar retries automatically.
Where to see an error
Read a failed post with GET /post/{id}: the error field summarises it, errors lists it per network and errorsVerbose keeps the detail. A post.published webhook fires when the post reaches a final state. Retry with POST /post/{id}/retry. Limits that Siar enforces itself are on the Pinterest page.
