Reddit API errorsand how to fix them.
When Reddit rejects a request, Siar stores the network's own code and message on the post and returns it to you unchanged, so what you read here matches what you see in the API. Back to the Reddit API.
Where a code is shown it is the network's own code or HTTP status. Messages are abridged where Reddit's text is long.
401
Message
Unauthorized
What it means. The access token expired or the user revoked the app at reddit.com/prefs/apps.
How to fix it. Siar refreshes automatically; if it still fails, reconnect the Reddit account.
403 private
Message
Forbidden
What it means. The subreddit is private, quarantined or banned for this account.
How to fix it. Join the subreddit with the connected account, or pick another one.
429 / RATELIMIT
Message
you are doing that too much. try again in 9 minutes.
What it means. New or low-karma accounts may post only once every few minutes; the client also has a request-per-minute limit.
How to fix it. Siar retries after the wait. Build up karma or spread posts out.
SUBREDDIT_NOEXIST
Message
that subreddit doesn't exist
What it means. The sr value names no subreddit (typo, or it was banned or renamed).
How to fix it. Use the subreddit name without "r/".
SUBREDDIT_NOTALLOWED
Message
you aren't allowed to post there.
What it means. The subreddit restricts posting to approved users, or the account is banned there.
How to fix it. Ask the moderators for approval, or post somewhere else.
SUBMIT_VALIDATION_FLAIR_REQUIRED
Message
Your post must contain post flair.
What it means. The subreddit requires a flair on every post.
How to fix it. Fetch the flairs with GET /misc/reddit/subreddit-flairs and send flairId.
BAD_FLAIR_TEMPLATE_ID
Message
invalid flair template id
What it means. flairId does not belong to this subreddit, or is mod-only.
How to fix it. Use an id returned by the subreddit-flairs endpoint (modOnly: false).
NO_LINKS / NO_SELFS
Message
this subreddit only allows text posts
What it means. The subreddit disables this post type (links, text, images or video).
How to fix it. Check the subreddit post requirements and change the post type.
TOO_LONG
Message
this is too long (max: 300)
What it means. The title is over 300 characters, or the text is over 40,000.
How to fix it. Shorten it.
invalid_grant
Message
invalid_grant
What it means. The refresh token was revoked or the authorization code was reused (Reddit answers this with HTTP 200).
How to fix it. Reconnect the Reddit account.
Where to see an error
Read a failed post with GET /post/{id}: the error field summarises it, errors lists it per network and errorsVerbose keeps the detail. A post.published webhook fires when the post reaches a final state. Retry with POST /post/{id}/retry. Limits that Siar enforces itself are on the Reddit page.
